Kerala rider loses life while completing Saddle-Sore challenge, rams into lorry from behind

Last Wednesday brought a devastating news to the family of Mithun, a final year engineering student, and a resident of Kerala, who met with a fatal accident while trying to complete a Saddle-Sore challenge. Mithun, crashed into a lorry ahead of him who applied sudden brakes and hence Mithun rammed into it from behind. The accident took place in Chitadurga on Bengaluru-Pune National Highway near 4 AM on Wednesday last week.

Mithun had embarked on the journey on Tuesday evening telling his mother that he was going to neighboring Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu,” police said.

Mithun was trying to complete the Saddle-Sore challenge which needs 1000miles/ 1600kms to be completed in 24 hours of time.

The Saddle-Sore/ Iron-Butt Association, is based in the US, and these challenges are favourable on the roads of countries like the USA only. Whereas such challenges become ten times harder in countries like ours which do not have such developed roads and highways. One should always consider this before attempting any such challenge of this kind.

Please note: Such challenges are not meant to be broken on Indian roads.

Our thoughts and prayers goes to the family and friends of Mithun. Our deepest condolences.
