Toyota orders one of the biggest recall of recent times, affecting 5.8 million cars

Toyota Motor Corporation has ordered a major recall that affects over-all 5.8 million cars across the globe. This major recall has been ordered to resolve the faulty airbags manufactured by Takata Corporation. According to Toyota, the airbags fixed in the cars do not have required drying agent that soaks up the buildup of moisture, as a result the airbags explodes. As per records, over 12 people have already died and more than 100 instances have been marked on a global scale.

All the cars affected were manufactured between May 2000 and November 2001, and April 2006 and December 2014. On the other hand, the cars manufactured between May 2000 and November 2001 were already recalled in 2010 to fix an airbag issue.

According to Toyota, the recall has affected around 1.47 million cars in Europe itself, about 820,000 cars sold in China and 1.16 million vehicles sold in Japan. The most popular cars affected with the recall include Corolla, Yaris, Hilux (Fortuner), and Etios sedan and hatchback.

Toyota India will shortly be confirming if the Etios range as well as the Fortuners that were manufactured in India are also a part of this major recall or not. Stay tuned for further updates.
